Araw ng kagitingan
During the Battle of Bataan, strength and valor are on display. Around 76,000 Filipinos and Americans surrendered to Japanese forces during the Bataan Death March. Dehydration, heat prostration, untreated wounds, and indiscriminate executions claimed the lives of thousands. Only 54,000 individuals made it to their destination; the number of persons who died is difficult to estimate. Most individuals fought and suffered hardship in order to live and gain freedom, despite being tortured, beaten, and humiliated.
Independence, they say, is not for the faint of heart. The soldiers on that particular day were far from timid and meek. The Bataan Death March illustrates that both the army and we, the Filipinos, are deserving of every ounce of liberty we possess. The Araw ng Kagitingan commemorates the valor and strength of the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Bataan.
